Aircraft Configuration Overview in Horizon

Purpose

This article provides guidance on managing aircraft configuration settings in the Horizon platform. These configurations define operational, technical, and ownership parameters associated with aircraft. The module includes setup options for Aircraft Attributes, Aircraft Dates, Aircraft Event Types, Aircraft Group Types, Aircraft Owner Types, Related Airports, and Related Persons.

Accessing Aircraft Configuration

  1. From the Horizon top menu, go to More → System → Aircraft.

  2. The Aircraft Configuration page opens, displaying categorized sections.

  3. Each section allows users to add, edit, delete, or export records using buttons on the right-hand side.

    1.  Add – Create a new record

    2.  Edit – Modify an existing record

    3. Delete – Remove a record

    4. ⬆ / ⬇ – Reorder list items

    5. Export to Excel – Download data for review or backup

1. Aircraft Attribute

Defines the onboard features, systems, or equipment associated with an aircraft.

System Type / Name / DescriptionIdentifies the aircraft feature (e.g., Oven, Data Port, Lav Sink).
System Category / Category Name / DescriptionGroups features by operational category (e.g., Galley, Entertainment, Lav, Cabin).
ColorAssigns a color label for quick reference (optional).
Mobile SyncDetermines whether the attribute syncs with mobile applications.
InactiveMarks the attribute as inactive if no longer used.

Examples:

  • DataPort – Communication

  • Headsets, BluRay – Entertainment

  • Oven, ConvectionOven, Glassware – Galley

  • Lav, LavSink, VacuumToilet – Lavatory

2. Aircraft Date

Tracks specific date-based aircraft maintenance, inspection, or update events.

System Type / Name / DescriptionDefines the event type tracked by date (e.g., Avionics, Paint, Weight Balance).
System Category / Category Name / DescriptionGroups date types by maintenance or certification areas.
ColorOptional field for visual classification.
Mobile Sync / InactiveUsed for mobile synchronization or deactivation.

Examples:

  • Avionics

  • Interior

  • Paint

  • Static Check

  • Weight & Balance

  • AFM Revision

3. Aircraft Event Type

Specifies system event classifications related to aircraft activity or status.

System Type / Name / DescriptionDefines the event (e.g., Tentative_Mx, Flight_Note, Weather).
System Category / Category Name / DescriptionCategorizes events (e.g., Maintenance, Note, Reserved).
Color / Mobile Sync / InactiveAllows customization for visibility and synchronization.

Common Examples:

  • Tentative_Mx – Maintenance

  • Flight_Note – Notes

  • Car_Block – Reservation

  • Static_Display – Reserved

  • Weather – Notes

  • Unscheduled_Mx – Maintenance

4. Aircraft Group Type

Defines group classifications for aircraft used across operational and reporting modules.

System Type / Name / DescriptionIdentifies the aircraft group (e.g., Charter, Fractional, Managed).
System Category / Category DescriptionOptional classification fields for extended grouping.
Color / Mobile Sync / InactiveSupports visual indicators and synchronization control.

Examples:

  • Heavy, Mid, SuperMid, Light

  • Charter, Managed, Fractional

  • On_Fleet / Off_Fleet

  • Shuttle, AirAmbulance, Trip_Request

  • Owner_Approval, Optimizer, Wyvern

5. Aircraft Owner Type

Defines ownership categories used for fleet and reporting management.

System Type / Name / DescriptionIdentifies ownership class (e.g., Fractional, Managed, Operator).
System Category / Category DescriptionUsed for classification or filtering by ownership type.
Color / Mobile Sync / InactiveVisual and mobile sync options.

Examples:

  • Fractional

  • Off_Fleet

  • Operator

  • Managed

Defines associations between aircraft and airports for operational or logistical purposes.

System Type / Name / DescriptionDescribes the relationship (e.g., HomeBase, MxBase, FloatingBase).
System Category / Category DescriptionAdds additional grouping or explanation.
Color / Mobile Sync / InactiveControls synchronization and visibility.

Examples:

  • HomeBase – Aircraft’s designated home location

  • MxBase – Assigned maintenance base

  • FloatingBase – Temporary or variable base

Defines roles or personnel relationships tied to an aircraft record.

System Type / Name / DescriptionIdentifies personnel role or association (e.g., Authorizer, Dispatch).
System Category / Category DescriptionOptional classification of personnel type.
Color / Mobile Sync / InactiveAdditional administrative options for sync and display.

Examples:

  • Authorizer

  • Dispatch

  • Maintenance

  • Owner

Best Practices

  • Use consistent naming conventions for all aircraft-related configuration entries.

  • Export to Excel regularly to maintain a backup of configuration data.

  • Deactivate rather than delete old or obsolete records to preserve data integrity.

  • Review Aircraft Attributes and Event Types regularly to ensure operational accuracy across scheduling and maintenance workflows.

  • Restrict editing permissions to System Administrators or designated configuration managers.

Summary

The Aircraft Configuration module in Horizon centralizes all aircraft-related setup options. By managing these configurations effectively, organizations can ensure consistent categorization, streamlined maintenance tracking, and accurate reporting across all operational modules.
