Overview

The Airports module in Horizon allows users to search, view, and filter airport data. This feature is essential for flight operations, trip planning, and crew dispatch. The screenshot example demonstrates a search for the airport IAH (George Bush Intercontinental Airport) in Houston, Texas, USA.

How to Search for an Airport

  1. Navigate to the Airports Module

    • From the Horizon top menu bar, click Airports.

    • This opens the Airport Search page, displaying filters and a list of results.

  2. Enter a Search Keyword

    • In the Search bar (highlighted in red in the screenshot), type a keyword such as:

      • ICAO code (e.g., KIAH)

      • IATA code (e.g., IAH)

      • Airport name (e.g., Bush Intercontinental)

      • City or location (e.g., Houston)

  3. View Matching Results

    • The search results automatically display below.

    • Each airport record includes:

      • Airport Name (e.g., G. Bush Intercontinental)

      • ICAO and IATA Codes (e.g., KIAH, IAH)

      • City and Country (e.g., Houston, Texas, United States)

      • Runway Information – Length and width (e.g., 12001x150 - 96 ft)

      • Fuel Availability – Yes/No

      • Approach Type – e.g., NonPrecision

      • Tags – Such as Customs, Private, Heliport, etc.

Using Filters

You can refine your search using the filter panel on the left:

  • Facility Type – e.g., Hard Surface Runway, Heliport, Turf

  • Minimum Runway Length / Width – Set thresholds for operational needs

  • Select Groups – Filter by internal classifications

  • Select Tags – Filter by tags such as Customs, Fuel, Closed

  • Click Apply / Refresh to update the results based on selected criteria.

Example: Searching “IAH”

In the screenshot:

  • The user searched for “IAH.”

  • The top result displayed is G. Bush Intercontinental (KIAH, IAH).

  • Key airport details are visible:

    • Location: Houston, Texas, United States

    • Runway: 12001x150 - 96 ft

    • Fuel: Yes

    • Approach: NonPrecision

    • Tag: Customs (indicating international entry capability)

Other results such as Cable Creek Ranch, Adventist Health Ukiah VA, and Copiah County appear because their identifiers contain similar text (“IAH”).

Tips for Effective Use

  • Use ICAO codes (4-letter format) for the most accurate search.

  • The Tags (colored labels) provide quick operational insight (e.g., Customs, Private, Heliport).

  • Use the filters to quickly narrow results when planning flights that require specific runway characteristics or customs facilities.

  • Clicking an airport name opens its detailed profile, where additional data such as elevation, lighting, frequency, and remarks are available.

Summary

The Airports module in Horizon is a powerful tool for flight planners and dispatchers to:

  • Quickly locate airport data by name or code

  • Verify operational details such as runway dimensions and fuel availability

  • Identify airports with customs or special access tags

The search interface is intuitive—simply enter a keyword, apply filters as needed, and review the detailed airport records displayed.
